Recovery Act Funding Grants Now Available

By Jillian Wheeler | April 14, 2009

We’re starting to see the new federal grants coming available through the 2009 Recovery Act.  Generally speaking, these grants have two goals:  to solve problems in communities, and to put additional money into the economy to stimulate growth.   Over the next few months, I’ll be bringing you information about many of these programs.

Here’s one example:  As you know, exploitation of  children by Internet predators is a growing problem in this country and elsewhere.  The U.S. Department of Justice is making grants available to organizations willing to study and come up with better solutions to this problem.  State and local governments, universities, Native American tribal organizations, and non-profit agencies can apply for the funding.  Proposals are due by May 14, 2009.

How will this funding stimulate the economy?  Well, if you have a non-profit devoted to the safety of children, and you receive a grant under this program, you’ll be in a position to hire additional personnel and replace some of the lost jobs in your community.  Your group may need a larger facility, and rent or purchase additional space.  You may purchase accounting software, and case management software.  You may retain the services of an additional attorney, or accountant.

In addition to the many grants already on offer, federal agencies are creating new programs.  They are also passing through money to state and local governments, who will offer their own new programs.  And of course, much of the funding (as I mentioned in an earlier post) will go expanding existing successful programs.

If you’re interested in creating a non-profit organization, one in which you can have a great job doing work that inspires you and serves others, consider our Grants Training Classes:

Our current class still has a little room.

BTW, you may have noticed there have been no notes from me in your Inbox this past week.   We’ve all had the flu, but are now on the mend.   I hope all is well with you and yours.
