Real Estate Grants in Atlanta
By Jillian Wheeler | February 25, 2009
The city of Atlanta is actively involved in developing affordable housing for its citizens. They are seeking partners among the non-profit community as well as for-profit investors and developers.
Individuals and families can take advantage of up to $15,000 down payment assistance, which is structured as a loan and reverts to a grant after five years of ownership. There are also home repair funds for homeowners in need.
If you’d like to find out what kinds of programs are available to individuals and families in your state, we recommend you check out our Guide to Grants for American Homebuyers and Homeowners:

It’s affordable, and full of excellent information for people who need help purchasing a home as well as current homeowners whose homes need renovation.
Atlanta also provides grants and low-cost loans to for-profit as well as non-profit real estate investors and developers. Multi-family projects that receive these funds must set aside a portion of their units for residents who earn at or below 60% of Atlanta’s average metropolitan family income.
One of Atlanta’s most exciting housing initiatives is the Neighborhood Stabilization. Under that program, investors can receive funding to:
- Purchase and rehabilitate foreclosed properties in order to sell, rent, or redevelop such homes and properties.
- Demolish blighted structures.
- Redevelop demolished or vacant property.
- Establish or enhance the capacity of land to assist in property redevelopment efforts
- Establish funding mechanisms for the purchase and redevelopment of foreclosed homes including soft-seconds, loan loss reserves, and shared equity loans for low-and moderate-income homebuyers.
These types of programs provide a great opportunity for investors and developers to get into the multi-family market, and they exist in every state as well as at the local level in most cities through the U.S. To help readers learn more about these programs, and how to participate, we’ve created The New American Land Rush: How to Buy Real Estate with Government Money:
When you visit the Land Rush website, you’ll learn how I received a 100% grant to purchase and rehab a 24-unit apartment complex, and you can view success stories from our customers.
