New Real Estate Grants for New York State

By Jillian Wheeler | June 20, 2008

In New York, Governor David Paterson has announced $742 million in new grants and financing to build and renovate housing throughout the state.  The money will finance construction of new units, as well as acquisition and rehab of existing housing.  Much of the money is earmarked for New York City and Long Island, but funding is also being extended to other areas of the Empire State.

“This financing demonstrates our commitment to creating and preserving affordable housing across New York State,” said Governor Paterson. “From Buffalo to Riverhead, we are helping build communities and grow our economy. Last week, we acted to protect the residents of Starrett City from losing their affordable housing. Beyond the funds announced today, the current State Budget provides a landmark $304.2 million in additional new housing investments, to improve the quality of lives for thousands of New Yorkers.”

Opportunities exist throughout the United States for real estate investors and developers to partner with government agencies, and use grants to buy and renovate housing.  If you’d like to learn all about these programs, you’ll be interested in our one-of-a-kind real estate grants resource kit, The New American Land Rush: How to Buy Real Estate with Government Money.
