Lots of Work for Professional Grant Writers
By Jillian Wheeler | September 18, 2007
One of the questions I’m frequently asked is, how do grant writers find work?
A real advantage enjoyed by professional grant writers is the fact that they are rarely affected by the economy.
When times are good, there is plenty of money and funders are giving lots of grants, so non-profits, universities and schools, government offices, and healthcare facilities need grant writers to work with the funders and prepare proposals to get the money.
When economic times are tough, these service providers are even more acutely in need of grant writers, to help them find whatever funding is available, and prepare funding requests.
And of course, having a prestigious credential such as Certified Grant Writer ensures your potential client that you have been well-trained and can provide them the support they need when they hire you. Professional grant writers can be permanent employees, or they can have their own consulting practices and work as I do on a case by case basis.
Some months ago, one of my very smart students discovered a resource that was new to me: www.Guru.com. At Guru, you’ll find requests for grant writers posted, and you can bid on these jobs. Here’s the description of a recent request:
“A professional is needed to locate a grant through government resources or any known resources and then put together the proposal to submit to get the grant funding.”
Several such requests are posted daily.
In our Grants Training Classes, I educate students in how to find grants and how to write proposals, as well as the etiquette of working with funders. Beyond that, however, I also show you how to begin to build a consulting practice, or find a job in the world of grants. We also enable our students to become Certified Grant Writers through Grants University.
A new class begins very soon. Read all about it, along with testimonials from former students, at:
