It’s Labor Day….
By Jillian Wheeler | September 4, 2006
And I find myself thinking about the whole subject of work.
Much of my life, I worked pretty hard.
Not hard compared to women who ride the bus every day to clean other people’s houses, or spend their lives carrying trays of food on their shoulders back and forth from hot restaurant kitchens.
Not hard compared to people who stand on their feet all day in front of assembly lines in noisy factories.
Certainly not hard compared to guys who go down into the mines and dig coal, or hold on to the backs of icy garbage trucks in the middle of winter, or build roads under the sweltering summer sun.
I was fortunate in that I had a good basic education, and I’d grown up knowing I had options, even if they didn’t always seem immediately accessible.
Still, I married young. I was a single mother for many years, and I often held down two or occasionally three jobs, coming home in between to fix meals and bandage scraped knees and help with homework. I put myself through college part time, and I was in my thirties before I finally finished.
My degree and my other professional training opened more doors, but they weren’t a silver bullet. I didn’t really begin to make a lot of money, and control my own life, until I began to work for myself. And even then, I made a number of false starts and went under financially a number of times.
Those years of struggle were, frankly, exhausting and depressing.
Today we honor all the workers. We honor our fellow laborers, and we honor ourselves.
I have the most profound respect for all types of work, and for every person who works either at home for her family, or in his fields, or out in the larger world. Especially, I have such deep respect for those who persevere, who keep contributing even when work is a struggle and the money is never enough.
I don’t believe that is how life was meant to be. I believe we were created to be productive, and to work to create good in the world. I do not believe we were created to struggle and suffer.
I believe work can be joyful and easy and exhilarating, and can bring great financial rewards. My life – and the lives of so many people I know – are proof of that.
That’s why I’m so committed to the work I do through Grant Me Rich.com. Because there is an easier way, and I’m here to help you find it.
If you are not doing work that truly satisfies you, and you are not living a life of financial ease, it can be different.
Perhaps your path to that better life is through grants. Many of our grants training students are establishing programs that serve their community and creating jobs they love.
Our students are becoming Certified Grant Writers and getting great jobs, or starting their own consulting businesses.

Many of our readers are learning how to invest in real estate, and are building a real estate portfolio that will eventually replace and greatly surpass their current incomes.
I’ve done those things, and continue to do work in those areas. But today most of my work is through my Internet business.
I labor in an office overlooking the pool in our backyard. My husband’s office is down the hall. We both like a lot of alone time, so we often work on projects separately. Then we’ll get together and collaborate on the final stages. This time of year we have a sort of ritual: around nine in the evening we meet in the pool with some quiet music and a glass of wine. We swim a little and talk about our day and our ideas and our plans.
Sometimes I work pretty intensely, especially when I have a deadline, or I’m excited about a project we’re completing. If I’m on a roll writing, I’ve been known to work all night.
Other times I work very little. I often spend time with our kids, play with our grandchildren, or hike along creeks here in the Texas Hill Country. I read a lot. On those days, I check my email once or twice a day, and deal with anything I need to quickly. We love to travel. We take our notebook computers and might spend an hour in an Internet cafe, or stay in hotels that offer wireless Internet.
It’s an amazing life, and I am unceasingly grateful.
The opportunities for creating an Internet business, and the varieties of Internet businesses, are almost unlimited.
This week, I’ll be announcing my first Internet business product. It’s a DVD set, and it’s packed with specific information to teach you how to build an affiliate marketing business with virtually no upfront investment, and no infrastructure beyond a simple website.
What is affiliate marketing? This week I’ll tell you all about it. Watch for my email.
