HUD Offers New Tool for Real Estate Grant Seekers

By Jillian Wheeler | May 28, 2010

HUD, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, is the largest provider of federal grants for real estate projects.  HUD provides grants to for-profit businesses as well as non-profits and smaller government agencies.  While many HUD grants are “pass-through” grants that are distributed by state and local authorities, some grants are available from HUD directly.

The HUD website is a treasure trove of information for real estate investors and developers interested in obtaining some of the thousands of grants and low cost loans available from HUD.  And recently, HUD has added a very useful new tool: an online brochure called “Finding and Applying for Grants is Easy!”.  You can download it here:

Of course, the best and most comprehensive resource available for government real estate grants programs is The New American Land Rush: How to Buy Real Estate with Government Money.

Land Rush is a simple yet complete guide that highlights every single federal and state real estate grant and low-cost loan program, as well as information on locating all the city and county grants.  A physical product that will be delivered to your doorstep, it includes two books, two audio CDs, and 8 data CDs, as well as a sample grant (one I wrote for an actual project).
