Giving and Receiving
By Jillian Wheeler | October 7, 2007
Your Internet Cash Machine, The Insiders’ Guide to Making Big Money, Fast! will be in stores in December. That’s the book I’ve written with Joe Vitale. In fact, this weekend I’m editing the final copy, just sent to us by the publisher in New York. Pretty exciting. The new website is almost up, as well. I’ll keep you posted.
If you have a business on the Internet, or if you’re thinking about it, this book will tell you absolutely everything you need to know. It’s the ultimate Internet business guide, full of simple, straightforward information you can use now.
The easiest way to be sure you get a copy is to pre-order through Amazon, using this link:
I asked some premier Internet marketers I know to contribute articles in their areas of expertise. It’s one of the best benefits of the book, I think. You get my take, and Joe’s, but you also get the hard-won experience of people like Mark Hendricks, who’s mentioned in the article below.
Like Joe, like me – like most of the successful people I’ve met – Mark believes giving creates receiving. “Give to get” is the phrase I’ve sometimes heard. Simply put, it’s a recognition of the fact that abundance is constantly circulating, and when we have an open hand, we’re available to both give and receive. The more we give, the more comes back to us.
Here’s a great story that illustrates the principle:
Benevolent Marketing – The Way Forward
You’ve probably heard these words said hundreds of time before. I’ll bet every time you heard it, it was said by or about someone who had discovered the secrets to creating wealth.
So what are “these words”?
Simple…
“In order to receive, first you must give.”
I was first encouraged to adopt this attitude by Mark Hendricks. I was skeptical. It seemed ridiculous to me initially. But it wasn’t very long before I actually “got it” and went on to prove that it is true. I started realizing more success in all areas of my life, just by making this one simple shift to my mind set.
In fact, the first time I put this simple “technique” into practice and started sharing my profits with worthy causes, I saw my order rate increase more than 10 fold!
The benefits don’t stop with your increase in sales, either. By using these techniques, you’ll find that your subscribers and customers become more likely to read and respond to your future emails, too! It’s like you receive a blessing from the universe and things just become easier for you when you start out with the right attitude.
When I started out online, I had a very selfish approach to making money online. I also found very little success. My marketing techniques themselves were all that different, but my results were.
It was as if the offer that I mailed out screamed “I’m in this for myself!” and I was lucky if I ended up with even two or three sales. Quite frankly, it didn’t seem worth it.
In fact, I recall sending out a promotion the week before I had my chat with Mark. It completely bombed…not one sale! I made a tweak, gave 50% directly to Cancer Research and made 268 sales!
I was blown away!
A few months later, I met Jeff Davis. Jeff is becoming well-known as a copy writer now, but when I first met him, he was about to throw in the towel. He had been trying for months and had yet to make a single sale.
Jeff contacted me and said… “I saw you were asking for help writing ads for PDF-Power-Brand. Here’s what I’ve done for you.”
Out of the blue, Jeff turned up and delivered exactly what I was looking for. And most amazingly, he didn’t ask for a thing in return.
We started chatting on Yahoo IM and Jeff told me all about himself. He had damaged his back, lost his job and his home. He was desperate and struggling to make money online.
Jeff didn’t ask to be paid for the ads that he wrote for me. He actually got a little embarrassed when I asked him how much he wanted to write 5 more. So I decided to show Jeff a little gold. I was ready to mail out a promotion, so I asked him to sign up as an affiliate and I mailed out, rotating our links for sign ups together, expecting to generate about 40 sales total.
The next day, Jeff was literally doing cart wheels – 39 sales had appeared in his inbox while he slept! By the end of the week, the promotion had generated almost 400 sales!
This was more than I expected and definitely above average. I’m convinced that my decision to share sales with Jeff had something to do with it. Not only was it the success that Jeff deserved, I was being blessed for opening a door for him and sharing my resources, just as he had unselfishly shared his writing talent with me.
At the time, Jeff really needed to make that money. If he hadn’t, he probably wouldn’t be here helping me now. I get a lot of help from Jeff and we have become good friends. Like I said, increased conversion is not the only benefit you draw by using this technique.
I encourage you to adopt a benevolent attitude to your business efforts.
Don’t set out thinking about what’s in it for YOU. Instead, think of how you can impact others, what you can do to improve your living and working environments, and how your skills and power can benefit people.
This is the attitude of success. I guarantee that the road of progress will be easier for you if you adopt it.

We all have something to give. If you want more money, give some to a source that provides you with spiritual inspiration (might be a church or synagogue, might be a person or another organization).
Give some of your valuable time. I’ve noticed when I start feeling stressed out and short of time, “tithing” some of my time to someone who needs it really works. My own time suddenly, almost magically, seems to increase.
This also applies to attention and affection. Think of that today and give someone a smile, or a warm hug.
